Join Our Editorial Team – Call For Intern

20.35 Africa is seeking a passionate and creative Editorial Intern to join our team! If you’re an African writer or reader with a love for contemporary poetry, a keen eye for details, and strong organizational skills, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience in various editorial tasks, develop social media content, work closely with our senior editors and learn about the scope of operations within our small non-profit literary organization.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. A passion for contemporary African poetry.
  2. Proficiency in basic proofreading and copy-editing.
  3. Prior experience in editorial work
  4. Experience with small project management and timeline maintenance
  5. Excellent writing and communication skills
  6. Competence in Microsoft Office e.g. Word and Google Docs.
  7. Ability to engage deeply with a poet’s work and formulate insightful and thoughtful questions about their craft and artistic commitments.

Interested candidates should submit a resume/CV and a brief cover letter highlighting their artistic, literary, and editorial experience.

Please note this is a volunteer internship role. While we are working towards compensating our team in the near future, we currently only offer coverage for internet costs.

All applications should be emailed to editors@2035africa.org with the heading APPLICATION FOR EDITORIAL INTERN. The application window will stay open until the position is filled.

Donate to 20.35 Africa

At 20.35 Africa, we seek to build towards the future of African letters that our readers, contributors, and staff deserve – one that uplifts living African poets from all over the continent and the diaspora. This effort is sustained by a committed team whose work is mostly pro bono. 20.35 Africa has thus thrived over the years through the sheer passion of its members, who share an understanding of the imperative position of their work. The other half of that work is you and we hope you will help us continue building into the future with your contributions.

Your generous support helps us pay for the administrative and general operating costs of running this organization. We want to thank you in advance for supporting living African poets and the pursuit of crafting a new contemporary voice, a collection of voices. Our publications remain free and open to the public for consumption. Your generosity and continuous support make all of this possible.
